Arbitron Inc. and Pilsen Neighbors Community Council Organize Children’s Book Drive

Arbitron Inc. (NYSE: ARB), joins Pilsen Neighbors Community Council (PNCC) in efforts to engage families and members of the community in a family-oriented activity at Fiesta del Sol. “The Arbitron Children’s Reading Corner,” features storytelling, book give-aways, and other fun reading activities.

The media and marketing research group, Arbitron, will feature “story time” with multicultural authors. This initiative is an example of Arbitron's commitment to the local community of Pilsen and its strong cultural heritage. With “The Arbitron Children’s Reading Corner,” Arbitron Inc. promotes the importance of reading by appealing to children as well as their families.

This year will mark PNCC’s 7th year in organizing a successful children’s book drive. Book donations are made possible by Pilsen community members and donations are currently ongoing in Pilsen Neighbors Community Council, Benito Juarez High School, Alivio Medical Center, Dvorak Park, Rudy Lozano Library, Arturo Velasquez West Side Technical Institute and Orozco Academy. The books (new and old) will be given away to children and teens during the festival. PNCC collected over 1,300 books last year and hopes to collect at least 2, 000 this year.

“Story time” will begin Saturday August 1st from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and book give aways will take place on Friday July 31st from 1:00 p.m.-6:00p.m., Saturday August 1st and Sunday August 2nd from 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Since 1954, the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council has been focusing on issues such as citizenship, education funding reform, economic development, and universal healthcare. PNCC develops community leaders and works in alliance with churches, schools, and community-based organizations. Fiesta del Sol (FDS) is PNCC’s annual fundraising event. FDS started off as a block party 37 years ago and has evolved into a nationally publicized event complete with corporate sponsorship and attendance of over million people every year. FDS is the largest event of its kind in the Midwest, celebrating the culture, music, art, and food of Pilsen’s Mexican American community. FDS is admission free and an alcohol and tobacco free.
